THE USE OF TECHNOLOGY AS A TOOL TO PROFFER SOLUTIONS TO LEGAL CHALLENGES

Image
(A Paper Submitted for the Law x Tech Conference) 1.0 INTRODUCTION   Although the legal sector underpins most socio-economic activities worldwide, it is troubling to discover that the legal sector is one of the slowest sectors in adopting technology, which is the emblem of the 21st century. The technology-averse attitude of the legal sector is a cosmopolitan issue given that a research conducted by the American Bar Association (ABA) revealed that a meagre 7% of law firms adopt technological innovations in dispensing their duties[1]. The outbreak of the novel COVID-19 further caused an unpleasant setback to legal services, as courtrooms and law firms were incapacitated by the overwhelming challenges that accompanied COVID-19. Indeed, technology comes with risks; however, the pros outweigh the cons. it is high time the legal sector bridged the technology gap; thus, espousing technological solutions as prescriptions for legal challenges.  2.0 LEGAL CHALLENGES Legal challenges ref...

The John 13 Series (III): AUTHORITY

Image
This post talks about a conversation I frequently had with God last semester. The conversation was, "Lord, how do I know the situations that will demand me to use your authority?". Let us journey through my findings. From the John 13 series (I&II), we understand that trust in Jesus and asking for His help can affect the storms or commotions around us. However, there is something we must also note✍️:  Sometimes Jesus expects us to use the   authority he has given us to prevail over storms around us. So back to my question, how do we know these situations? The first step to knowing these situations is by intimacy with the Holy Spirit 🕊️. A close relationship with the Holy Spirit will make you know when to exercise your Christ-given authority. Jesus said in John 14 that he will send His Holy Spirit who will teach us all things.  No wonder the Apostle Paul knew when to use his authority offensively e.g. to make Elymas the sorcerer blind and when to endure diffi...

TRUE FAITH

Image
All things being equal, this blog post should have ended the John 13 series. However, I perceived that God would have us learn or relearn one of the toughest lessons I learnt recently. You would agree with me that oftentimes when we think about faith, a beautiful picture is painted in our minds. For example, Abraham believes God for a child; He gets Isaac, and everyone is happy. However, having only this ideology is a catalyst for heartbreaks because it is incomplete.  What then, is the missing piece? 🧩 Apostle Paul helps us answer this question in Hebrews chapter 11.    He shows us in verses 36 – 38 that men who obtained a good report through faith experienced – trials, afflictions, and other sufferings.  Verse 37 - 38 says, “ They were stoned, they were sawn asunder, were tempted, were slain with the sword: they wandered about in sheepskins and goatskins; being destitute, afflicted, tormented;  And these all, having obtained a good report through faith, ”. ...

The John 13 Series (II): ASK!!!

Image
The first part of the John 13 series established the love-trust relationship. 🔗 However, at the end of the blog post, it was stated that there is a caution that we must adhere to while being secure in God’s love. As much as Jesus loves us to lean on Him irrespective of circumstances and situations; He also wants to see our problems solved. The love-trust relationship comes with an open cheque and only someone among the disciples understood it in John 13. Now, what was this caution?  A t the supper, a lthough John was at ease on Jesus’ chest, the confusion around him wasn’t changing. So, Peter beckoned to John to ask Jesus who the betrayer was so that there would be peace. John obeyed and eventually, Jesus' response brought a calm. What Peter did here was to leverage the love-trust relationship between Jesus and John to obtain what could calm the unsettling situation. Similarly, this admonishes us not to be complacent just because we trust God in troubling situations but to us...

The John 13 Series (I): Love & Trust

Image
Have you been in a situation where it seems like your world is upside down despite knowing you are in God’s will? I've been there and found it hard to keep calm or trust that everything would be fine. Towards Jesus’s death, there was some disturbance among his disciples; however, one person had a level of trust that made him calm despite all that occurred around him. Who was this🤔? In John 13, at the last supper, Jesus disclosed that one of his disciples would betray him. Predictably, there was confusion among his disciples😵. They were suspicious and confused about whom that statement referred to. Amazingly, In the middle of all this, John was busy resting on Jesus’s chest, rather unbothered👀. Finally, to eradicate the disciples’ confusion, Peter signaled to John to ask Jesus who the betrayer was. John obeyed without shifting from his position of rest - leaning on Jesus (v25). What kind of man is this, that was unmoved by his surroundings and was at ease with Jesus?  What did h...

Start With Me

Image
Sometimes we are vexed by the way those around us behave or how they live their lives. Even some leaders are constantly frustrated at the state of their subordinates, even Jesus faced worse when relating with his disciples, as you can imagine🤣.  Noteworthily, while praying his last prayer for his disciples on Earth, Jesus revealed a principle that was vital to the disciples' transformation from mere men to mighty apostles 💪.  While at the Garden of Gethsemane, in John 17:19, Jesus prayed, " for their sakes, I sanctify myself , that they also might be sanctified through the truth ." In v20, Jesus then prayed, 'for the sake of those that will be sanctified through them , sanctify them '. What was happening here? In the above verses, Jesus revealed that one cannot give something that one doesn't have. One cannot influence or impact people without first being an embodiment of that influence or impact . He wanted his disciples (those in his sphere of influence) ...

Purity: The Flip Side

Image
W e all have things we are expecting God to do for us this year. Certainly, most of us hope that this year we will see God in action in various aspects of our lives, saying, 'I am trusting God to do this and that for me🙏 this year  '.  However, to see the hand of God (God's power) takes more than amazing plans. At times we hinder God from working, and sometimes God is at work, and we don't see it😳, all because we lack  a key component .  What is this key ingredient to seeing God move? While giving the popular sermon on the mount, Jesus said, ' Blessed are the pure in heart for they,  shall see God' (Matthew 5:8). You are probably thinking "what does being pure in heart have to do with my goals?"  Basically, ensuring your heart is pure implies not exposing yourself to what can 'corrupt the heart', which is very important. But, on the flip side , it also means making sure that the motive of your actions and goals (that you are trusting God for...

The Art of Worship

Image
Many things happened to us this year that we didn’t plan for.  Also, unlike others, some of us didn’t get all we asked and prayed for to happen this year😩.  Frequently, when we thank God for how the year has been, at times these degrading thoughts pop up in our hearts along with our sonorous voices during thanksgiving. Rather than this heart posture, there are two✌️ key postures that Jesus desires of us to truly worship God. Jesus spelt it out in John 4:24 , “God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth” What does 'in spirit' imply? 🤷 Remember, when we accepted Jesus as our Lord and Savior, He gave us the Holy Spirit. Thus, it is apt to say that when Christ said ‘worship in spirit’, He wants us to thank Him for what He has given us and not worry about what He hasn’t given us. Thus, we aren’t pained because we haven’t gotten a Rolls Royce yet; rather, we thank Him for the vision He has given us that will certainly prosper beyond imagina...

BECOMING THE ONE

Image
D elay is not always caused by your “village” people or spiritual attacks. Sometimes, the main reason we haven’t gotten the answer to our prayers is that we forget an important principle of God. So, before you go to that next 'night vigil' or embark on marathon fasting, make sure you understand this precious tenet of God. Genesis 2:5 lays the foundation of this principle -" no shrub  or  plant of the field was yet in the earth, and no herb of the field had yet sprouted, for the LORD God had not caused it to rain on the earth, and  there was no man to cultivate the ground ," . In simpler terms, God didn't send rain because there was no one to work on the ground. Could it be that God hasn't sent rain in that area of your life because you haven't become the person that can cultivate the ground i.e. you haven't become THE ONE, that God can entrust with the riches of the earth? Jesus said, "we perish for lack of knowledge", or more easily put, we...

What You Didn't Know About October 🗓️

Image
W e are in the first double-digit month of 2022.  The Bible urges us to understand the times that we live in. As always, there are splendid things that God is doing per season and the tenth month is not an exception.  However, through the word, the light to our path, we can see the marvelous things associated with the number 10 and the tenth month and be partakers of these blessings. Let's move 💃. 1. Creative power : Do you know that during creation, God uttered ten authoritative creation statements ('God said' occurred ten times)?  2. Grace and Favour: The  Bible recorded that in the tenth month, Esther found grace and favor before the King. Thus, she was enthroned and made queen even in a strange land (Esther 2). 3. In the 10th month, A word from God came through Ezekiel, that Pharoah, a proud self-proclaimed stronghold, and principality, will be displaced out of his territory with his cohorts and utterly disgraced (Ezekiel 29). 4. Also, although God wiped t...

What You Didn't Know About September 🗓️

Image
I t is another time to see the goodies that the month of September holds for us - Children of God. Stay glued to this article and see the possibilities you can tap into in the 9th month as a Child of God.   September's Spiritual Delicacies 1. A Month of Grace 🤲🏼: In Ezra 10, the Children of God that have erred and were exiled received grace to return to the fold of God's elect. 2. A Period of Intentionally Seeking God 🙇‍♂️: Funny enough this point took place in the 9th month at 2 separate times. First, in Jeremiah 36, the word of God was revealed to the people and a fast was declared in a bid to consecrate themselves to God. Second, in Zechariah 7, the people also sought the face of God from the prophets.  3. The Kickstarter of Great Blessings 💃🏻: God declared blessings in the 9th month through Haggai. In Haggai 2, He said, " From this moment, I will bless you...and I will make you a signet ring for I have chosen you ."  Lastly, it's important to mention that...

Before You Set Out

Image
Congratulations God has spoken to you and given you a promise. Naturally, you seek to prepare and to start moving in the direction of God's promise for you. However, there is a funny and fundamental truth that you should realize before setting out to fulfill God's word. The first time Jesus sent His disciples out, He had to emphasize this truth before sending them out. It took some time for me to realize this. What is this truth? In Luke 10, As Jesus sent His disciples out to the cities, He told them  not to take any bag, staff, or extra clothing.  Jesus didn't mean that travelling accessories weren't beneficial; however, He wanted his disciples to understand that the ability to do that which God has sent them to, doesn't lie in what they have but in what God has said. God's word has the creative ability to fulfil itself.  Thus, the resources you have or advantages at your disposal didn't qualify you for the promise; however,  God's mercy sought you out ...

Finding What We Really Seek

Image
N obody likes work. The real reason we work and take steps to make ends meet is that we want to find rest - meet our needs easily and have inward peace. Often, men seek this rest the wrong way. In Matthew 11:28, Jesus said He will give us this rest but in the following verse (v29); He said we will find it. Is there a contradiction? How can we find rest? Matthew 11:28& 29 says, " Come to me, all who labor and are heavily laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls ." What Jesus meant was that in surrendering our endeavors to him, taking his yoke (which is what He really wants us to do in life), feeding on His word through the process, and having a gentle and humble attitude throughout the way, we will reach a certain point where we will have rest - (all the things we seek for). So, the question is what is Christ's yoke for you? If you have the yoke already, are yo...

What You Didn't Know About the Month of August🤔

Image
D aniel 9:2 says 'I, Daniel understood by the books the number of years the word of God came to Jeremiah the Prophet.' The above verse underscores that by the study of the word Daniel understood the season the word of God was supposed to come to pass. I have realised that by the study of the word, one can discover peculiar seasons attributed to certain months. However, it doesn't stop there. The Bible says in Daniel chapter 9 that after Daniel understood by the books he sought out the Lord - v3 ' KJV:And I set my face unto the Lord God, to seek by prayer and supplications, with fasting, and sackcloth, and ashes.  In the same vein, I discovered that after discovering seasons or realities peculiar to a month or situation, if one prays consistently to position him or herself for that season. Biblically, the number 8 signifies a new beginning. The covenant of circumcision (a form of dedication signifying that one is now God's own) is usually done on the eighth day. No w...

You Don't Need An Hammer 🔨 to Build (Eph 4:24)

Image
" A s long as I don't curse or speak perverse words, I am fine." Most of us believe the above statement is the Christian standard of speech. While discipline in cursing and perverse speaking is commendable, the truth is Christ demands more from His children. What then is the Christian's standard of speech? Ephesians 4:29 helps us answer this question by stating, "Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up🔥...that it may give grace to those who hear." Wow! This means that every conversation we indulge in should have a strengthening and encouraging effect on the other party. Sometimes we speak to people and they lock themselves up and cry, ultimately, feeling less than they were built up to be. Constructive criticism should be embedded in our default expression. Our words should be rivers of living waters that will serve as refreshing to those who encounter them.  Thank God for Joshua and Caleb. Had they not debun...

Pioneering New Engineering Innovations For A Resilient World In A Post-COVID 19 Era

Image
(A paper submitted for the Nigerian University Engineering Association Magazine) D espite the successive riotous waves of the global pandemic, the world still exists. However, we are still adjusting with the ‘new normal’ lifestyle that tagged along with COVID-19. A World Bank Study showed that economic growth of advanced regions would decline from a depleted 3.8 percent in 2022 to a disastrous 2.3 percent in 2023. What chance do less-advanced regions have? Innovation is the backbone of our survival in these life threatening times. Innovation is the innate quality of adaptation and resilience pooled into the muscles of the mind. In this Post-COVID era, challenges needs to be solved with scientific solutions. Thus, underscoring the role of emerging engineering innovations for the earth to maintain her much needed resilience. Globally, the most prominent areas affected by the pandemic are: health, education and businesses. Nonetheless, the world is rebounding; however, to maintain a...
